Look closely at where a partition panel’s flat surface meets its edge, and you’ll usually find a join – a fine line where two separately finished surfaces meet, held together with hot-melt adhesive. It’s a detail most people never notice, until the Dorma Huppe zero-joint technology removes it from the equation altogether.
Instead of gluing a separate edge strip on afterwards, zero-joint technology uses laser-based bonding to fuse the edge and the panel surface directly, with no hot-melt adhesive. The result is a single, closed unit with no visible transition between edge and surface – and as the specification behind it shows, a panel that’s also more durable, more hygienic, and better placed for the EU’s tightening rules on formaldehyde emissions.
Traditional partition and movable wall panels are edged using hot-melt adhesive: a separate strip is bonded onto the panel face, leaving a visible – and, over time, vulnerable – seam. Zero-joint technology replaces that process with laser-based bonding, fusing the edge band directly and seamlessly to the cover panel surface. Edge and panel surface become one continuous unit rather than two components stuck together, with no visible line and nowhere for moisture, dirt or wear to get foothold.
It’s worth noting that zero-joint technology refers specifically to this edge-to-panel bond, not to the joints between individual wall elements: a 6mm shadow gap between each element is retained, as standard.

The most immediate difference is how it looks, there’s no separate edge strip, there’s no colour mismatch, no lippage and no seam to catch the light at the wrong angle. For specifiers working on corporate reception areas, boardrooms or premium retail fit-outs, that’s a finish that reads as considered rather than assembled – the kind of detail that gets noticed on a walkthrough, even by clients who couldn’t tell you why it looks better. It’s a principle that carries across our glass partition ranges too, where a clean edge is just as critical to the overall finish.
A seamless edge isn’t just a design flourish – it’s structural. With all four sides processed and no adhesive layer to fail, zero-joint panels are markedly more moisture-resistant and hard-wearing under daily use: hygienic, low-maintenance and easy to clean, which matters as much in a hospital corridor as it does in an open-plan office. Explore our full range of movable walls, glass partitions and acoustic solutions to see where this level of detail is applied across the board.
From 6 August 2026, Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/1464, which amends Annex XVII of the REACH Regulation, brings in a stricter EU-wide formaldehyde emission limit for furniture and wood-based products: 62 µg/m³, roughly half the previous threshold in many member states. It’s a significant compliance shift for anyone specifying wood-based panel products.
Dorma Huppe’s zero-joint cover panel, built with a 100% adhesive-free functional layer, tests at emissions as low as 3 µg/m³, – around 95% below the new limit – with VOC emissions independently tested in accordance with AgBB and EN 16516. For specifiers, that’s headroom built in well ahead of the regulation taking effect, not a scramble to comply after it.

Zero-joint technology is now available across Dorma Huppe’s partition and movable wall ranges, supplied and specified in the UK through Style Group. Whether you’re specifying for a new-build healthcare facility, a corporate refurbishment or a premium retail fit-out, the same laser-bonded edge delivers on finish, hygiene and compliance in equal measure.
If finish quality, durability or emissions compliance are on your brief, our team can talk you through where zero-joint fits for your project – from initial specification through to installation. HBN 00-09 sets out these surface characteristics because unsealed joints are a recognised place for moisture and micro-organisms to collect. A genuinely joint-free edge is designed to address that specific detail.
This is a surface and edge specification, not a clinical claim. Zero-joint technology has not been evaluated or certified by NHS England, and does not claim to reduce infection rates.
Food-service and guest-facing areas are typically inspected under hygiene and housekeeping standards that look closely at surfaces and joints. A seamless, moisture-resistant edge is designed with exactly that kind of scrutiny in mind.
Every one of these sectors shares the same underlying surface problem: a bonded-strip edge is a seam, and a seam is a place where dirt, moisture or wear can concentrate in a way a continuous surface can't. Zero-joint technology addresses that one structural detail across offices, schools, healthcare and hospitality settings alike — one construction detail, one shared weak point removed, four sectors that each care about it for their own reasons.
