With such diverse use of ever-changing space, Style worked with contractor, Epps Construction of Ashford, and Architect, Lee Evans of Canterbury, to create a flexible arrangement downstairs in between the café and lounge area, and upstairs in the main hall/classroom. This featured an L-shaped configuration with inset pass doors and one stack area.
Dorma Variflex, in a stylish cream laminate finish, was specified by the architects as the most suitable option, offering ease of manoeuvre and a finish that complemented the aesthetics of the church.
With its many design and constructional variants, Dorma Variflex is ideal for any application where the purpose is to help people meet, communicate and generally feel comfortable in their surroundings.
“We have a great deal of experience working with churches, and are therefore very sensitive to their requirements,”
said Keith Way, Style’s director for the South East.
“By using Variflex, we not only provided a system that is effortless to open and close, but it is also extremely neat, has a beautiful finish, and offers privacy through its 52 dB acoustic rating.”

HBN 00-09 sets out these surface characteristics because unsealed joints are a recognised place for moisture and micro-organisms to collect. A genuinely joint-free edge is designed to address that specific detail.
This is a surface and edge specification, not a clinical claim. Zero-joint technology has not been evaluated or certified by NHS England, and does not claim to reduce infection rates.
Food-service and guest-facing areas are typically inspected under hygiene and housekeeping standards that look closely at surfaces and joints. A seamless, moisture-resistant edge is designed with exactly that kind of scrutiny in mind.
Every one of these sectors shares the same underlying surface problem: a bonded-strip edge is a seam, and a seam is a place where dirt, moisture or wear can concentrate in a way a continuous surface can't. Zero-joint technology addresses that one structural detail across offices, schools, healthcare and hospitality settings alike — one construction detail, one shared weak point removed, four sectors that each care about it for their own reasons.
