Flexible Glazed Partitioning for a Multi-Use Church Space
The Glens and Kirriemuir United Parish Church required a flexible and modern solution to enhance the functionality of its ground floor welcome area and adjoining main hall and breakout spaces. Working in collaboration with Alpha Projects and James J Stephen Architects, Style delivered a high-quality glazed partitioning system designed to support both community use and day-to-day church activities.
At the heart of the project was the installation of five Dorma Glas HSW Easy Safe horizontal sliding wall systems. These movable wall systems were specified to provide adaptable space division while maintaining a bright, open and welcoming environment throughout the ground floor.
Seamless Space Division with Frameless Glass
The Dorma Glas HSW Easy Safe system offers a flexible solution for dividing large spaces without compromising on natural light or visual connectivity. Installed between the welcome area and the main hall/breakout spaces, the sliding glass panels allow the church to quickly reconfigure layouts to suit a variety of uses, from large gatherings and services to smaller community meetings and events.
The system incorporates 10mm toughened safety glass, ensuring both durability and compliance with safety standards while delivering a clean, frameless aesthetic. When closed, the panels provide effective separation between spaces, and when opened they stack neatly to maximise usable floor area.
Balancing Functionality and Aesthetic Clarity
A key design objective for the project was to maintain a contemporary and uncluttered interior that complements the church’s architecture. The use of full-height glazed panels enhances the sense of openness within the building, allowing light to flow freely across the different areas.
Manifestations, provided by others, were incorporated to ensure visibility and safety while aligning with the overall design intent. The result is a solution that balances transparency with practical considerations, creating a welcoming and user-friendly environment.
Supporting Community Use Through Flexibility
The completed installation provides The Glens and Kirriemuir United Parish Church with a highly adaptable ground floor layout. The sliding wall systems enable quick and efficient reconfiguration of spaces, supporting a wide range of activities including worship, community events, group meetings and social gatherings.
By combining robust performance with a refined aesthetic, the Dorma Glas HSW Easy Safe system enhances both the functionality and visual quality of the space, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the church and its community.

HBN 00-09 sets out these surface characteristics because unsealed joints are a recognised place for moisture and micro-organisms to collect. A genuinely joint-free edge is designed to address that specific detail.
This is a surface and edge specification, not a clinical claim. Zero-joint technology has not been evaluated or certified by NHS England, and does not claim to reduce infection rates.
Food-service and guest-facing areas are typically inspected under hygiene and housekeeping standards that look closely at surfaces and joints. A seamless, moisture-resistant edge is designed with exactly that kind of scrutiny in mind.
Every one of these sectors shares the same underlying surface problem: a bonded-strip edge is a seam, and a seam is a place where dirt, moisture or wear can concentrate in a way a continuous surface can't. Zero-joint technology addresses that one structural detail across offices, schools, healthcare and hospitality settings alike — one construction detail, one shared weak point removed, four sectors that each care about it for their own reasons.
